Bernice Catherine Murray, 103, of Blaine, Kansas, died Friday, October 16, 2020, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland.  She was a life-long member of the community.

Bernice was born on November 13, 1916, in rural Blaine, Kansas, the daughter of John Francis and Mary Ellen Lynch Donnelly.  She attended local schools and graduated in 1934 from Wheaton High School.

Bernice attended Normal School and taught for two years at Reves School in rural Pottawatomie County. She also worked as an elevator operator at the National Reserve Life Insurance Company and then during WWII she worked for the North American Aviation Plant.  She was a “Rosie the Riveter.” 

Bernice married Edmond R. Murray on May 28, 1943.  Bernice and Edmond moved back to Blaine in 1951 to work on the farm.   He preceded her in death on December 30, 1995.  

Bernice was a farmwife and an active part of the farming operation.  She milked the cows and fed the pigs as well as all the other duties of raising her family and running her home.  Bernice was a member of St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church.

Bernice is survived by her four sons; Ed Murray (Janice), Sugarland, Texas, Steve Murray (Darlene), Alma, Bob Murray (Kathy), Onaga,  and Tim Murray (Lori), Wheaton; her ten grandchildren, Kim Dey (Jim), Shannon Peters (Rob), Michael Murray (Liz), Scott Murray, Todd Murray (Bobbi), Mitch Murray (Toni), Kara Murray, JD Murray (Dana), Stephanie Murray (Cliff), and Tyler Murray; her fourteen great-grandchildren, Cole, Matthew, and Ashley Dey, Charlie and Grant Peters, Amelia and Miles Murray, Reed, Rhett, and Rylen Murray, Cutter Murray, Allie Blume, and Karlee and Kylie Murray.  Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Donnelly; and a grandson, Beau Patrick Murray.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 23, 2020, at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Blaine.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Father Anthony Chendumalli will be the Celebrant.  Bernice will lie-in-state, Thursday, at the church, beginning at 4:00 pm where the family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  A Rosary prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm.  They suggest memorial contributions to the St. Columbkille’s Renovation Fund, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Kufahl Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at
