Michael Lee Redmon, 54, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Alma, died Friday, September 1, 2017 in an accident. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Mike was born October 22, 1962, the son of Ronald Lee and Janet Shroyer Redmon. He attended local schools and graduated in 1981 from Wabaunsee High School. Mike then joined the Kansas Army National Guard.
Mike was a forklift operator for nineteen years at Berry Global Plastics in Lawrence. He was a member of the Dornwood Softball Association and served two years as president, and also coached softball. He was an active member of NIA (Neighborhood in Action) and also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
He married Rebecca “Becky” Burget on August 24, 1991. She survives at their home.
Mike is also survived by his children; Kora Redmon, Topeka, Krista Redmon (Nathan Brown), and her children Leo Redmon-Brown and Liliann Redmon-Brown, all of Topeka, Emily Redmon, and Amber Reid (Cody), and her daughter, Abagail Reid; his parents Ronald and Janet, Alma; siblings, Suzie Yates, Nancy Armstrong (Jay), Amy Redmon (Twila Wollenberg), and Wendy Redmon-Page (Jimmie); his close friends he considered like brothers, Gary Allen, Russell Mosby, Daniel Robinson, Tom McPherson, Kelly McPherson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Lee Yates, and cousin, Vicki Kelley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Alma United Methodist Church. Mike will lie-in-state, on Friday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home and family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Michael Redmon Memorial Fund, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
