                                    John Rockne Bloomfield, 80, of Ogden, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan.  He was a long time resident of the area.

                                    John was born on March 31, 1931, in Wyandotte, Michigan, the youngest of fourteen children, to George and Nellie Walsh Bloomfield.  He attended local schools and graduated from Saint Patrick High School in Wyandotte.

                                    John served twenty years in the United States Army during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict.  At his retirement he had achieved a rank of Master Sergeant-E8.  He was stationed in Korea, Vietnam, Panama, and various locations stateside, including Fort Riley.  John also served as part of the honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery.  He retired from military service in 1969.

                                    John then worked briefly for the railroad. He then sold insurance and real estate.  John did several years of missionary work near Gallup, New Mexico at a mission school.  He did many things for the school in its daily operations and girls home.

                                    John was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden.  In 1991, he was ordained as a Deacon and served in that capacity for many years. John’s faith was a very important and affected all aspects of his life.  He was a Forth Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW.

                                    John married Darlene Schwalm on May 3, 1952, at Fort Riley, Kansas.  She survives at their home.

                                    He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bauer and her husband, Roger, Santa Maria, California; his son, John Bloomfield and his wife, Carmen, Alma; sister, Patricia Oswald, Trenton, New Jersey; grandchildren, Natalie Sargent and her husband, Doug, Justin Bauer, John James Bloomfield and his wife, Bekah and Joseph Bloomfield and three great-grandchildren, Paris, Avery, and Braden.

                                    A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden.  Father Donald Schwalm will be the Celebrant.  Inurnment and military honors will follow at the Kansas Veteran Cemetery.  A rosary prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m., at the church, prior to Mass.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego.  Online condolences may be made at www.campanellafuneral.com.
