Glenn Harley Gordon, 95, of Wamego, Kansas, died Monday, January 2, 2012, at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. He was a life-long resident of the community.
Glenn was born October 3, 1916, in rural Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of T.A. and Nellie Snapp Gordon. He attended local schools and graduated from Westmoreland High School. He then attended Kansas State University.
For thirty years, Glenn was the manager of Dick’s Thriftway grocery store in Wamego. Prior to that he farmed the family farm north east of Westmoreland for thirty eight years.
Glenn married Helen Marie Stevenson on May 29, 1938, in Marysville, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1992.
He loved to fish and do wood working. After his retirement, he and Helen enjoyed traveling around the country. He attended Trinity Baptist Church.
Glenn is survived by his son, David Lee Gordon and his wife, Tina, Emmett; his daughters, Jean Ann Wilcox, Concordia, Sue Gordon, Wamego; and three grandchildren, Branson, Scott and Christine. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Guy, and Clyde Gordon.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. Reverend Dr. Tony Mattia will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Wamego City Cemetery. The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. until service time.
