Ella Alice Theel, 96, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Alma, died Saturday, February 3, 2018, at McCrite Assisted Living. She was a life-long resident of the area.
Ella was born October 19, 1921, in rural Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Emma Weith Mathies. She attended District 75 rural grade school.
Ella married Albert Eugene Theel on April 30, 1944, in McFarland. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1979.
Ella was a homemaker and farm wife for many years, helping with the family farm west of McFarland. After Albert’s death, Ella worked as a cook for twenty years at the Alma Manor. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, LWML, and the Ladies Aid. Ella loved to quilt and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was known for sharing her homemade cookies with friends and family. Ella loved to visit and attend social events. She was a friend to many.
Ella is survived by her children: Ken Theel (Janie), Emporia, Wayne Theel (Elaine), Emporia, Evelyn Clark, Branson, Missouri, Lois Gravitt, Independence, Missouri, Ruth Blake (Henry), Topeka, and Phyllis McDonald (Tim), Chandler, Arizona; her thirteen grandchildren, David Theel, Stephanie Bates (Mark), Brian Theel (Casey), Jennifer Lowe (Jeff), Jason Theel, Megan Pribyl (Jeff), Jessica Tiegreen (Tim), Victoria Chandler (Don), Jodi Connolly (Fred), Aaron Clark (Rohina Rubicz-Clark), Richard Trieb (Kelly), Henry Blake IV, and Ashley VanBuskirk (Ron); her step-grandchildren, Robin Swain (Brandon), Chanelle McDonald, Michelle Saylor (Kirk), and Dani Beesley (Brandon); her sisters, Loma Stuewe, Alma, Laverne Falk, Council Grove, and Inez Theel, McFarland; eighteen great-grandchildren, twelve step-great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and four step great-great-grandchildren. Ella was also preceded in death by her parents, husband (Albert), a great-grandchild, Tyler Trieb, siblings, Esther Stuewe, Lillie Neff, and son-in-laws, Gerald Clark and Farrell Gravitt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland, Kansas. Reverend Chris Vossler will be officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. They suggest memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma.
