Dorothy A. Geisler, 89, of Alma, Kansas, died Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the Wamego Health Center. She was a life-long resident of the area.
Dorothy was born on January 27, 1928, in the Garfield Township of Alma, Kansas, the daughter of John W. and Hester A. Keys Bredow. She attended local schools and graduated from Alta Vista High School. Dorothy then attended and graduated from Topeka Business College.
Dorothy married Walter Henry Geisler in Alta Vista on February 12, 1950. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1995.
Dorothy was a homemaker. Prior to her marriage, she worked a couple years as a secretary in Topeka. Following Walter’s death, she did janitorial work for the Alma SRS office.
Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta Vista, the church LWLM, and its Bible study group. She was an avid reader and a member of the Alma Reading Circle. She loved to garden and tend her flowers. She enjoyed raising chickens and was an avid bird watcher. Dorothy was a member of their family country western band, the Mill Valley Swingers, and played steel guitar for 26 years. They played for parties, wedding dances, square dances, and many community events.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Roxanne Fluharty (Wes), Alma and Marcilee Rump (Craig), Galva, her daughter-in-law, Karry Geisler, Guttenberg, Iowa; her grandchildren, Casey Rump (Kelli), Burrton, Ryan Stokley (Gayli), Onaga, Shiela Rae Sipko (Daniel), Gambrills, Maryland, Courtney Smith (Rusty), Clarksville, Tennessee, Kayla Erdmann (Nathan) Guttenberg, Iowa; her great-grandchildren; Rochelle, Madison, Kolten, Raylin, Danielle May, Kyrrah, Danielle, Nathaniel, Zachariah and Gabrielle. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Geisler in 2006, her brother, William Bredow, an infant brother and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta Vista. Reverend Chris Schultz will be officiating. Dorothy will lie-in-state on Friday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or Cal Farley’s, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
