Donald “Donnie” Lee Blanc, 71, of McFarland, Kansas, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Alma Manor. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Donnie was born December 1, 1945, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Oscar H. and Faye S. Wood Blanc. He attended local schools and graduated in 1963 from Alma High School. He then served during the Viet Nam War in the United States Navy.
Donnie was a welder and worked for Balderson’s and then for Caterpillar in Wamego. In his earlier years he worked as a farm hand and 10 years in construction doing dry wall. He also was a welder for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Donnie married Vicki J. Moreland on June 22, 1968, in McDonald, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his daughter; Carolyn Sue Blanc in 2001; his son, Michael Lee Blanc, in 2012; his parents and infant brother, Oscar.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Blanc (Retha) of Kansas City, Missouri; nephew, Keith Blanc; and caregivers and close friends, Justin and Mindy Miller, Paxico.
Donnie was a long-time member of the McFarland Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland. Reverend Chris Vossler will be officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at McFarland Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may gather for a visitation prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or American Legion Post 32, and those may be made in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma.
