Donald Lee Dieball, 87, of Alma, Kansas, died Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the community.
Don was born on November 20, 1930, in rural Alma, the son of Albert and Lillian Noller Dieball. He attended local schools and graduated in 1948 from Alma High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a mechanic for anti aircraft and guided missiles.
Don was a farmer and a rancher his entire adult life, operating the family farm west of Alma. He was member of the American Legion, Post #32 in Alma and the Masonic Lodge. Don served on the Kansas State Water Shed Board for three years and was a founding member of the Mill Creek Water Shed Board. He also served as a school board member for Alma USD #329. Don was a long-time 4-H leader. Don was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ and served in many different capacities at the church. He enjoyed working his land and especially enjoyed his horses and cattle.
Don married Faye Ellen Moege on January 20, 1961, in Alma. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1981. After Faye's death, Donna Reuter was Don's companion for twenty six years. She also preceded him in death on September 16, 2014.
Don is survived by his children; Dell Dieball (Kim Moege), Alma, Kent Dieball (Tina Fugate), Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Janeen Dieball, Alma; his brother, Ray Dieball, Manhattan; and three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Don was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lillian Zerbe and Alberta Wertzberger.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2018, at Peace United Church of Christ in Alma. Reverend John Austin will be officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery. Don will lie-in-state on Thursday, July 19, 2018, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to Peace United Church of Christ, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
