Charlotte Ruth Richardson Meseke, 87, of Alma, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas.
Charlotte Richardson was born January 24, 1931, in Bayard Nebraska, the daughter of Stephen Roscoe and Cora Belle Shoemaker Richardson. Charlotte moved with her family from Bayard, Nebraska to McFarland, Kansas at the age of 6 and began school at McFarland Grade School. Charlotte graduated from Alma High School.
Charlotte married Maurice Marlan Meseke on October 21, 1948, at the Alma Methodist Parsonage and settled into their family farm west of Alma. They owned and operated their own business, Meseke Plumbing and Heating, for 35 years until retiring. Maurice preceded her in death on January10, 2011. After selling the business Charlotte was employed as the baker at the Alma Manor.
Charlotte loved her plants and flowers, cooking and taking pictures of her family. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Alma United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Alma Chamber of Commerce, Wabaunsee Historical Society, Alma/Wabaunsee Booster Club and involved in many community events and activities. Charlotte and her husband loved their travels across Europe and America, spending time with family, and relaxing at their cabin at Oak Canyon, Tuttle Creek Lake. She enjoyed celebrating Christmas every year with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Maike (Ron), Susan Orton (Mike), both of Alma, Marilyn Ponte (Ralph) McFarland; two sons Don Meseke (Julie), Alma, and Dan Meseke, Topeka; two sisters, Dolorese Beavers, McFarland, Anna Mae Anderson, Alma; one brother, Raymond Richardson, Alma; 19 grandchildren; Dustin Gasperich (Jen), Krista Hurla (Chad), Rachel Sisson (Jared), Lindsay Falk (Josh), August Ponte-Wessel (Andrew), Teresa Ponte, Amy Ponte, Carol Cubie (Bruce), Todd Orton (Heather), Tyler Orton (Julie), Shelby Settle (Nathan), Chancellor Orton (Emily), Brianna Orton, Brian Maike (Jami), Anthony Maike (Maria Wade), Amber Capoun (Ben), Melinda Davidson (Bryan), Jarrod Meseke (Cori), Darrin Meseke (Samantha Samich): 36 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Charlotte was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Stephen Jr Richardson, Halleck Richardson, John Richardson, Robert Richardson; and one sister Rose Mary Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at the Alma United Methodist Church. Reverend Paul Wolf and Reverend Kyle Scheideman will be officiating. Burial will follow at the McFarland City Cemetery. Charlotte will lie-in-state, on Tuesday, beginning at 3:00 p.m., at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to the Charlotte Meseke Memorial Fund, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
