Barbara Jean " Bobbie" Solon, 91, of Westmoreland, Kansas, formerly of Mesa, Arizona, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Westy Community Care Home. She had been a resident of the area since 2015 when she moved here to be close to family.
Bobbie was born on February 4, 1927, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Barbara Diskin Knott. Bobbie's mother passed away when she was three and she was then raised by her aunt and uncle, Emmett and Lucy Dowling in Walnut, Kansas. She graduated from St. Francis High School in St. Paul, Kansas in 1945. After her graduation, she moved to California to be near her father and siblings.
Bobbie married Carl Poindexter June 5, 1948, in Long Beach, California. In 1960, Bobbie and Carl moved to Denver, Colorado where she did the bookkeeping for their family business, Poindexter Plumbing and Heating Specialties. Carl preceded her in death in 1987.
Bobbie moved to Mesa, Arizona, in 1989. She married John "Jack" Solon in 1992. They had a wonderful life together, cruising, traveling, golfing, dancing and enjoying parties with a large group of friends. Jack preceded her in death in 2008.
Bobbie loved to golf and played five days a week in her earlier years. She enjoyed traveling and loved to dance. She and her husband Jack won a cruise in a dance contest. Bobbie was an excellent cook and delightful hostess. She was known for her many and stylish dinner parties.
Bobbie is survived by her children; Daniel Poindexter (Jeanne), Montrose, Colorado, and Barbara Diane Ebert (Steve), Westmoreland; her sister, Alice Seery, San Clemente, California; seven grandchildren, Erin White, Brice Ebert (Rachel), Cheryl Lee, Lisa Bengtson (Brett), Kathleen Wagner (Jeff), Cyndi Langley, Tim Poindexter (Jamie); and her sixteen great-grandchildren, Mack, Luke, Preston, Mallory, Campbell, Addison, Amelia, Lydia, Beau, Racheal, Jacob, Joshua, Caleb, Sariana, Maiya, Tucker, and one great-grandson due in May. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Christine King, her brother, Jay Knott, and two sisters, Lorene Garde and Mary Ita Bradshaw.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, Kansas. Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a later date. Bobbie will lie-in-state on Thursday, May 17, 2018, beginning at 3:00 p.m., at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Rosary prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. The family suggest memorial contributions to the Bobbie Solon Memorial Fund to be used to help with the Lupus treatments for her granddaughter, Cheryl (Ebert) Lee, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.
