Elbert “Alan” Shehi, 72, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of Westmoreland, died Monday, May 22, 2017, at his home. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Alan was born November 22, 1944, in Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of Elbert “Ducky” and Marilyn Hershey Shehi. He attended local schools and graduated in 1962 from Westmoreland High School.
Alan was a stone mason for Hartman Masonry and well known for his skill. He worked on many projects in the area, including the arch at Beach Museum on the Kansas State Campus and the Manhattan Train Depot Restoration.
He was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #15. He loved nature, wildlife, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed many vacations to national parks and especially two cruises to Alaska. Alan attended many of his nieces and nephews sporting events and enjoyed time with his family and friends.
Alan married Jane Parry on December 14, 1963, in Westmoreland. They were later divorced.
Alan is survived by his daughters; Stephanie Shehi (Paul Valdez) San Diego, California, and Amy Shehi, Manhattan; his sisters; Peggy Kraushaar, Belen, New Mexico, Mary Caffrey (Don), Goddard, Sara Helget (Gary), Westmoreland, and Lora Shehi, DeLeon Springs, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial gathering and sharing time will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the United Methodist Church Education Building in Westmoreland, Kansas. A visitation and lunch will follow the sharing time. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Westy Community Care Home, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego.
