Carlene H. Hull, 79, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of Frankfort, Kansas, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at Mercy Regional Health Center . She was a life-long resident of the Frankfort area until moving to Manhattan in 2007.
She was born March 23, 1931, in Marysville, Kansas, the daughter of Carl Wilbur and Myra Theis Strand. She attended local schools and graduated from Marysville, High School. Last week she celebrated her 60th class reunion.
She married Robert L. Hull on July 4, 1951, in Blue Rapids, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2002.
Carlene was the co-owner and office manager of Bob Hull, Inc. in Frankfort. She and her husband operated the utility construction business for 25 years. She served as a school board member for USD 380. Carlene also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hats, Civic Club and Welcome Club. She was an avid member of many card playing clubs.
Carlene is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Jane Dunlap and her husband, John, Beattie; three sons, Robert Daniel Hull and his wife, JoAnn, Salina, David W. Hull and his wife, Karen, Wamego, and Richard T. Hull and his wife, Carol, Frankfort; two sisters, Charlene Kirkpatrick, Marysville and Virginia Zidek and her husband, Lawrence, Beattie; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Karen Strand Manz.
A memorial service will be held a 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 10, 2010, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Reverend Tim Maguffee will be officiating.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church in Frankfort. Reverend Marilyn Wullschleger Sweet and Father James Shaughnessy will be officiating. The family will greet friends following the services. A private inurnment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, south of Blue Rapids. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University or Good Shepard Hospice and those may be sent in care of Kufahl Funeral Home in Wheaton.
