Lawrence Edward Berroth, 70, of Paxico, Kansas, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Larry was born March 31, 1940, in Paxico, Kansas, the son of August LeRoy and Selena Schmitt Berroth. He attended local schools and graduated from Paxico High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany as a combat engineer.
Larry was a rancher and worked for several different operations in Wabaunsee County. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paxico. Larry loved to work with horses and cattle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed KU athletics.
Larry married Ruth Stegner on June 7 , 1970, in Alma, Kansas. She survives at their home.
He is also survived by his daughter, Sarah Breymeyer and her husband, Mike Hutley, Berryton; two sons, Mark Breymeyer and his wife, Linda, Kintnersville, Pennsylvania and Brian Edward Berroth, Topeka; two sisters, Betty Schuetz and her husband, Tom, Paxico, Jean Tanner and her husband, Darrell, Larned; two brothers, Joe Berroth and his wife, Eloise, Maple Hill, Ron Berroth and his wife, Diane, Topeka; sister-in-law, Fina Berroth, San Antonio, Texas and brother-in-law, Clayton “Swede” Anderson, Alma; and his four grandchildren, Matthew Breymeyer, Lauren Hutley, Brendon Hutley, Eric Hutley and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Art and Brad Berroth and sister, Sue Anderson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paxico. Father John Pilcher will be the Celebrant. Inurnment and military honors will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, at the church, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A rosary prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to the Larry Berroth Memorial Fund, to be designated at a later date, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma.
