Lorene "Renie" Anna Margarete Miller, 103, of Alma, Kansas, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Alma Manor.  She was a life-long resident of the area.


Renie was born January 30, 1907 in McFarland, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Dorothea Senne.  She attended local schools.  She was baptized on February 14, 1907 and confirmed on March 20, 1921.


She married August H. "Dutch" Miller on February 23, 1927, in Alma.  He preceded her in death on January 20, 1990.


Renie was a homemaker and farm wife.  She and Dutch farmed on the family farm on Spring Creek, west of Alma.  She also worked for a while cleaning homes in Manhattan and briefly, at the Koenig Sale Barn. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid and Friendship Circle.  She was a member of the Spring Creek Community Club.  Renie loved to fish.  She enjoyed quilting and participating in a local quilting group.  She also enjoyed embroidery, playing cards and time with her family.


She is survived by her son, Ray Miller and his wife, Jo-Ann, of Alma; her son-in-law, Marvin Havenstein (Dixie Senne), Topeka; six grandchildren, Jeanie (Al) Merz, Karen (Robert) Lewis, Jennifer Gutierrez, Danny (Charmin) Miller, Marcelle (Robert) Shrake, Michael (Theresa) Havenstein; fifteen great-grandchildren, Alvin (Beth) Merz, Travis Merz, Matthew (Megan) Merz, Michael Merz, Jeffrey (Barbara) Lewis, Colleen Lewis, Andrew Gutierrez, Alex Gutierrez, Karlee Miller, Cassidy Miller, Charele Duncan, Logun Duncan, Jasper Shrake, Kaylee Havenstein, Christopher Havenstein and two great-great-grandchildren, Kinsley Lewis and Ethan Merz.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Havenstein, an infant daughter, grandson-in-law, Ralph Gutierrez, and three brothers and four sisters.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma.  Reverend Robert Grimm will be officiating.  Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.  Mrs. Miller will lie-in-state, at the church, Tuesday, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., where the family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  They suggest memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.campanellafuneral.com.
